Course Design

The Course will be delivered in (3) Parts:

PART ONE 
Faculty-led content over 4-consecutive weeks- PRIOR to the Start of Semester

• Role of the Nurse Educator in Developing the Workforce; Transitioning from Clinician to Educator
• Learning Theories & Teaching; Teaching Methods; Evidence-Based Teaching
• Simulation
• Interprofessional Practice; Developing & Using Tests
• Learning Laboratories; Clinical Teaching; Relationships with Clinical Settings: Roles & Responsibilities of Nurse Educators
• Curriculum; Curriculum Models & Course Development

PART TWO
Up to (6) hours of LIVE Coaching- During the Semester

• Group Coaching: Scheduled virtual sessions open to all participants.
• Individual Coaching: Individual sessions with coach as requested.
• Focused Learning Sessions: Scheduled sessions on specific topics related to role responsibilities.

PART THREE
Faculty-led modules over 2-consecutive weeks- At CONCLUSION of the Semester

• Assessment Methods; Program Evaluation & Accreditation
• Becoming a Scholar in Nursing Education; Preparing Students for Interprofessional Work in the Global Village; Nursing Professional Development Practitioner in a Clinical Practice

• Group Coaching: Scheduled virtual sessions open to all participants.
• Individual Coaching: Individual sessions with coach as requested.
• Focused Learning Sessions: Scheduled sessions on specific topics related to role responsibilities.

Course Outcomes

Upon completing the course, Nurse Faculty will earn 60 nursing contact hours and be able to:

• Analyze the role of the nurse educator in varied settings and competencies for effective teaching in nursing.
• Examine stages in the transition process from clinician to educator and strategies to ease transition.
• Apply theories of learning, learning style, culture, and other characteristics of the learner to teaching in nursing.
• Compare teaching methods including technology for facilitating learning in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
• Examine best practices for teaching in the classroom, online, and in simulation, learning laboratories, and clinical settings.
• Describe strategies for Interprofessional Education.
• Examine concepts of and strategies for assessment, testing, and clinical evaluation.
• Describe the processes for curriculum development and program evaluation in nursing education.
• Analyze the evidence that underlies educational practices and relationship to the scholarship of teaching in nursing.

A Completion Certificate is given upon successful completion of the course and completion of the course evaluation.

2023 Start Date

Course begins August 7, 2023
Part 1:  4 weeks in length (August 7, 2023 to September 3, 2023)
Part 2:  2 weeks in length (January 8, 2024 to January 21, 2024)
Coaching will be offered during Fall 2023 semester
